India 2023 World Cup – India captain Rohit Sharma remembered the World Cup and looked forward to the start of the season at home in October.
While India may not have progressed beyond the semi-finals in the last two editions of the Men’s Cricket World Cup, the skipper believes his team can emulate the success of their compatriots in 2011.

During the 2023 Men’s Cricket World Cup tour of Barbados, where he was photographed with the award on display on November 19, Rohit expressed the importance of foresight and patience in India’s preparations.

“There is still a long way to go and we know that you can’t win the World Cup in a day or two, you have to play well for the whole month, month and a half and be consistent.
We are doing everything we can from our point of view to make sure we are ready for the World Cup.”
Not only did he top the 2019 event (648 runs in 81 overs) but also plundered five centuries in the tournament, but he is under no illusion that for India to take off they need to come close to emulating his four-year success ago, even in the midst of the hype and pressure that comes with the home campaign.
“I was in a good frame of mind (in 2019), I felt really good about my cricket, I had prepared well before the World Cup and when you go into a tournament like this, all you want to do is get off to a good start, Rohit added: “Mentally he is rested.” “Physically everything is fine after all.”

“I started very well in that tournament, I got a hundred in the first match, and from there on it was all about moving forward for me.
“Obviously you have a lot of confidence in what you’ve done in the past, but starting over and starting over was really important. I was in a great state of mind at the time and I can’t wait to recreate that.”
To find inspiration for the upcoming tournament, Rohit reflected on some of his earliest World Cup memories, initially citing Ajay Jadeja’s catch of Allan Border in 1992.
Running and diving to remove the dangerous left-hander, the catch to Rohit symbolized India’s transition to modern limited-overs cricket, which evolved in Sachin Tendulkar’s work in the early 2000s.

“I remember Ajay Jadeja’s catch famously. I remember it because it has stuck in everyone’s mind, even now. He took our fielding to the next level,” Rohit observed.
“I remember every little moment of all the World Cups. 1999 Also, the first thing that comes to mind is Herschelle Gibbs’ goal that cost them the World Cup, I think.
“Then in 2003, when India played well until the final. Sachin Tendulkar was fantastic with the bat.”
The ‘It Takes One Day’ campaign was launched in Mumbai just 77 days after the start of the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup.

As for India’s victorious season in 2011, the victory was a bit bittersweet for the current skipper, who had to watch the match from home.
The 36-year-old admits he thought about watching the season after the disappointment of missing out on team selection, but changed his mind when he learned how important winning a world championship would be for his country and his teammates.
He said: “2011 was an unforgettable year for all of us. I remember watching every game from home.”
“There were two feelings: the first was that I wasn’t part of it, so I was a bit disappointed and decided that I wouldn’t watch the World Cup.

“But again, the second memory I have is that India were playing very well. From the quarter-finals onwards, the big quarter-final [semi-final] was against Pakistan and I know how much pressure the players are under when you play all these games, matches, so I can only imagine what each player went through at that time.
“And the semi-final [quarter-final] against Australia, it was a great achievement for Yuvi (Yuvraj Singh) and (Suresh) Raina in defence.”
As for how India will support their men, with a twinkle in their eyes as they watch the Cricket World Cup, Rohit knows that his team will have the support of an entire nation.
“I know for sure that every land and every place we travel to will get tremendous support,” Rohit said.

“It’s the World Cup, so everyone is looking forward to this event and the return of the World Cup to India after 12 years. People are very excited and we can already see the excitement back home. I can’t see the time to play in all the stadiums. .
“I had never seen this cup so closely, when we won in 2011 I wasn’t part of the team, but it’s a beautiful team with many memories behind it.
