Ravichandran Ashwin Is A Great Bowling All Rounder. Stats Prove That:

What two international tours can do for a youngster’s confidence, Hanuma Vihari was knocking on the door of the national team in August 2018, scoring runs for India A against South Africa A on the outskirts of Bangalore. As part of a line-up that included Prithvi Shah, Shreyas Iyer and Mayank Agarwal, few in the field knew what Vihari was like, let alone his credentials. Then the statistic hungry people discovered his first class average. (59.45) was better than Virat Kohli. Heck, it was the best in the world. And on the back of a glorious 2017-18 season – where he scored 1056 first-class runs, four centuries and an average of 96 – Vihari was called up for the final two Tests in England. Since then, he has played almost all of India’s Away Tests. This meant that the big dog of domestic cricket – Vihari had scored two tons in each of the previous five Ranji Trophy seasons – had to miss the 2018-19 tournament. This relates to just one win in eight matches for his Andhra team. Now at home, Vihari scored a double century for India in the Irani Cup match against Vidarbha in Nagpur.

He is the only RoI player to score a century on the first day. But this is not surprising. He is often a savior of sorts in long-form cricket. Ironically, despite having more ‘popular’ partners in the form of Ajinkya Rahane and Shreyas Iyer at the other end, Vihari’s knocks on the boundary elicited huge cheers. He is no longer someone that Indian cricket fans have to search on ‘Google Images’ to put a face to his name. This was evident when Vihari spoke after the fourth day’s match in Nagpur. When we last spoke about six months ago, Vihari was calm and soft-spoken. There were signs that someone was still trying to figure out who he was. But having been part of the Indian Test team in England and Australia, his voice had an air of conviction this time.”Being in the Test team boosted my confidence level,” Vihari said. “When you know you’re top class there’s a certain confidence in dominating domestic cricket.” This was evident in the way Vihari confronted the Vidarbha players on the fourth evening when they were trying to press for a declaration. After tea, having already scored 153 runs in the second innings (surpassing his first innings 114), he let his hands swing the ball around. He hit six sixes – one that almost broke the window of the press box – and a boundary to add 27 runs from his last 18 balls. It was a fitting end to a first-class and international season that changed his life forever. It showed how seriously they take every match, regardless of the opposition and the number of people watching. Once you know you are at the top level there is a certain confidence to dominate domestic cricket.” Domestic cricket has always come from my roots,” Vihari said. “I always knew that I can score runs regularly in domestic cricket. But, yes, I don’t take my domestic cricket seriously. I play with the same intensity as international cricket.” Playing with the Indian test team has taught me. You have to be decisive with your footwork. Especially with your defense. If you are confident in your defense, you can play the shot properly. You can choose the shot you want to play according to the ball. But first of all, you have to believe in your defence.” Our second innings was difficult for batting, because the wicket was very challenging. But one thing I picked up quickly is that you have to be busy and have good intentions. That’s the secret. of success, I think.” His match total of 294 runs the figure single-handedly for RoI as the game moves into the fifth day. Still, with a target of 280 runs for the Ranji Champions, Vihari are not ready to relax.” I think it will be a tough task for us tomorrow, but we can definitely win this game. First, we have to play very well. And take all our chances, but Vidarbha in first innings [run 95] is leading, I am happy, Rahane bhai and Shreyas were able to make the match.” After tea, Shreyas and I used to play overs. We want Vidarbha to bat in 12-15 overs today, the captain told us during the tea break. But we scored the last fifty runs quickly and declared earlier than we expected. we are
